The Chair

Everyone feels safe, comfortable and happy when sitting in his or her favorite chair.  So sit down visually in one of my many photographs of chairs that I have come across on my many trips around town.  This post is Chairs, all shapes and sizes – hope you find them visually comfortable.

THE STAIRS

Stairs consisting of steps that form shadows and lines that direct the eye to a place above or below – a destination that is just beyond the eyes view.  My photographs of stairs are the subjects of this post.  Again it is the lines ascending and descending that create a graphical composition in black and white that has attracted me to this subject. 

 

WIRED

Using wire coat hangers, I explore the pure line in relationship to white space. Horizontal and vertical lines intersecting and flowing in harmony. The negative and positive relationships of the line on white space are complementary in an abstract sense.

Or, it could be considered simply a group of photographs of wire coat hangers.  Images shot using window light with a Sony Nex-7 camera and 50mm lens.

Experiments in Composition

As a photographer I am always aware of everything around me  -it is usually the simplest items that draw my attention.  It is first the shape with the light defining the subject and how both interact with each other. This is basically how I see and feel about objects around me.

Everyday objects that I find within my immediate surroundings are the subjects of this post.  Using window light and some compositional design, I have attempted to record these objects that are basically invisible, because they are simply commonplace objects that we see every day and take little notice of.  Such items as forks lying on the counter, a bowl with spoon, coat hangers, teapot – all of these offer an opportunity to view them differently-look at them from a new view and apply different compositional ideas to these subjects.

A Day At The Museum

The art museum or art gallery is a perfect place for photographers, novice or advanced, to study the use of light and composition as it is employed by the artist.  Besides the educational aspect- the museum also offers wonderful people shooting possibilities.  It is interesting to watch how the patrons bond with the art they are viewing.

Most museums will allow you to use your camera without flash or tripod.  Before starting this shooting experience check each of the gallery rooms for lighting as it relates to your ISO setting- I usually set my ISO at one setting that will enable me to shoot at f/8 with a shutter speed no lower than 1/30 of a second.  Then, while you are enjoying and studying the artwork –watch how your fellow art lovers react to the various pieces of artwork for interesting possibilities.
