Wall Portraits

I have spent a lot of time photographing the various mural art of Tucson.  There are estimated to be about 107 wall murals in and around Tucson.  While the murals spell out a story or an idea, it is the faces contained within these murals that have fascinated me, as well as those talented artists that painted them.

I have deliberately cropped in close on just the faces contained in these wall murals…you might consider this bog a presentation of the mural faces of Exit 270.

I can be contacted at nymacc@gmail.com for any questions or comments.  All the images were photographed with a SONY A7II camera.

Landscapes Surreal

There is a saying...”the spirit always stands still long enough for the photographer it has chosen.”  Sometimes the idea for a series of photographic images just happens.  A clear plastic produce bag from the local supermarket is an example of this.  I found that after crumpling it as I prepared to toss it, I noticed a series intersecting patterns were created.

Opening up the bag and a aiming the camera through the opening disclosed a surreal landscape.   Positioning the bag with window light coming through the bottom of the bag a series of different alien type canyons were created.  Each time the bag is moved or I crumpled it up and reopened it, a new series of surreal landscapes are presented.

So, this post is my photographic exploration into a series of surreal type images found by photographing the inside of a clear supermarket produce bag.

THE GAME

Darkness and Light

Are two brothers

Who play a game

With cousin shadow

You dont have to

Leave your room

To watch their game

Of darkness and light

The game always ends

With the same results

Darkness is a winner

With shadows only

A memory.

In The Neighborhood

The other day I decided to take a walk through the neighborhood.  Like most developments, everything is planned out with winding streets and culdesacs, which photographically are not very visually appealing.

What my eye focused on was the curves of the streets and the shapes of the houses as they were bathed in side lighted sunlight.  I basically made the images black and white in order to accent the light and lines that met my eyes.  So this is my short photographic walk through my neighborhood and what I saw.

All images shot using a Sony A7II camera and a kit lens.  Images were converted to black and white in Photoshop.

Catching the Light

Long days where light and shadows kiss

And light stretches across the floor

In a never ending line ending on a distant wall

Where a shadow seems to move in rhythm

As one trys to catch the light.

Light moves quickly and the shadows are sure to follow.  And, as it creeps through cracks in the blinds, a dance begins with its partner the darkness.   The light dances across the walls and floors in a never ending dance forming shadowy shapes.

Alfred Stieglitz, the photographer said, Where there is light one can photograph.”  Yes that is true, but first you must see the light.  This blog is about observing the light and shadows it creates during one day I spent observing it within my space.

All images were made using a Sony A7II camera using natural window light.
