The Zen of The Pepper

In this post I view the Bell Pepper from within, through a series of photographs focused on the inside after it has been cut up for a salad.  There is a certain alien like landscape that presents itself.  So this is my Zen portrait of several different peppers.

All photos shot using a Sony A7II camera with window light and a portable LED light for accenting pepper center seeds.  You can leave comments at nymacc@gmail.com

Broccoli Trees

Broccoli, a childs vegetable nightmare.  You can roast it, broil it, fry it, steam it; but it still tastes like broccoli.

While I am a fan of eating this veggie, I have also found its shape at times resembling a surreal tree worthy of photographic exploration.   So, this post is devoted to the many shapes of broccoli.

Book Me

I do have a fondness for still life photography.   It is sort of like painting, you have a blank canvas before you, that you build upon one object at a time until the final subject is completed.

Still life photography unlike other types of photography that we are all familiar with like street, landscape or flowers…in still life you control the creation of the image.  You choose the subject, arrange it and light it anyway to your choosing.  You really have complete control of the creative process. which is a reaffirmation of your composition and lighting skills…and can also be a learning process as you work through building the image.

In this series of still life images I have chosen to include books in a series of images.  Because I am using other objects along with the book arrangements, it sometimes become questionable, is it the books or the accessory object that are the main subject?  However, in this series of images it really doesn’t matter because the images are left to the viewer to decide what within the image draws their attention.  I prefer to follow a minimal approach with not too many objects in the image. The main lighting for most of the images is early morning window light with sometimes a small handheld portable light to highlight  an area, this combined with a black background to produce a Rembrandt style image.

Camera used SONY A7II…I can be contacted at nymacc@gmail.com for any inquiries about this post or past posts.

Wall Portraits

I have spent a lot of time photographing the various mural art of Tucson.  There are estimated to be about 107 wall murals in and around Tucson.  While the murals spell out a story or an idea, it is the faces contained within these murals that have fascinated me, as well as those talented artists that painted them.

I have deliberately cropped in close on just the faces contained in these wall murals…you might consider this bog a presentation of the mural faces of Exit 270.

I can be contacted at nymacc@gmail.com for any questions or comments.  All the images were photographed with a SONY A7II camera.

Landscapes Surreal

There is a saying...”the spirit always stands still long enough for the photographer it has chosen.”  Sometimes the idea for a series of photographic images just happens.  A clear plastic produce bag from the local supermarket is an example of this.  I found that after crumpling it as I prepared to toss it, I noticed a series intersecting patterns were created.

Opening up the bag and a aiming the camera through the opening disclosed a surreal landscape.   Positioning the bag with window light coming through the bottom of the bag a series of different alien type canyons were created.  Each time the bag is moved or I crumpled it up and reopened it, a new series of surreal landscapes are presented.

So, this post is my photographic exploration into a series of surreal type images found by photographing the inside of a clear supermarket produce bag.
